Nothing says Derby Day quite like outrageous hats and Mint Juleps. For nearly a century, the Mint Julep has been a tradition of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby. This most classic of bourbon cocktails is made up of three simple ingredients and served over a small mountain of crushed ice. Here’s our version.
Fresh mint sprigs
1 ounce simple syrup
2 ounces top shelf bourbon
In a highball glass, add fresh mint leaves and simple syrup. Muddle gently to release the flavor and aroma of the mint. Fill glass with crushed ice. Then add bourbon. Stir and garnish with an abundance of mint sprigs. Now, put your feet up and watch those ponies run!
